PNG Compression

Compression is the process of reducing the size of a digital file by deleting bits of information. Sometimes, you remove empty or unnecessary bits of information, resulting in a smaller file size that appears precisely the same. This is known as lossless compression. Lossy compression occurs when bits are removed, which reduces the file's quality.

The utility on this page does lossy compression by decreasing the available color palette of a PNG.

Why should you compress a PNG?

PNGs are good for images, logos, and other simple designs due to their transparency. This enables you to layer a PNG on top of another image while just covering select sections of the image beneath. This is not achievable with most other picture formats, including JPG.

PNGs can use either 24-bit or 8-bit colors. The higher the bit support, the more colors are available for that PNG—and the larger the file size. If your website includes a simple logo in 24-bit PNG format, it is taking up needless space and slowing down page load time. Converting the image to an 8-bit palette will minimize file size while maintaining noticeable quality. Your page will now load somewhat faster because the file is smaller and takes up less storage space.

If you have a lot of PNGs on your page, reducing them to 8-bit can significantly enhance your website's speed.

How do I compress a PNG?

Using our free online tool, you may compress a PNG quickly and easily. There is no program to download, no registration required, and no limit on the amount of compressions you can perform.

To begin, click the "Upload Files" button and select your JPG or JPG files. If you prefer, you may drag and drop your files into the "Drop Your Files Here" section.

Once submitted, you'll see thumbnails of your PNGs in the queue. Our server will process them immediately and identify the best ratio for quality compression. If you like what our server has chosen, you can download the zipped file(s) by clicking the "DOWNLOAD" button under the thumbnails.

You can also manually control the compression level. Tap the thumbnail of one of your photographs to enter manual mode. Move the quality slider until you've discovered the optimal compression-to-file fidelity ratio. When satisfied, click the "APPLY" button and proceed to the next image.

When everything is finished, you can save time by clicking the "DOWNLOAD ALL" option. This downloads a ZIP file. That file will include all of your compressed PNGs in one tidy package.

If you're ready to perform another conversion, click the "CLEAR QUEUE" button to restart the procedure. Remember that you can only make batches of 20 photographs at a time, but you can upload as many batches as you want.

Is it safe to compress PNGs?

Our compression tool is not only user-friendly but also fully safe. The server that runs the tool is completely automated, so no one will view the photographs you upload. Furthermore, the server automatically purges all data after 60 minutes, so any files you upload will be erased just an hour later. This keeps your information private and secure.

If you are dissatisfied with our compression results, you will still have your original files. You can then re-upload the master file and compress it. You can do this as many times as you like.
